In order to do our duty and conduct market research to stay on top of trends in the video games industry, our team at Teravision Games diligently sacrifices their evenings to test other games. It’s a big ask, we know, but everyone rises to the task magnificently.

Here’s a few games that our team members have been playing this spring and what we’ve liked and learned from them as we’ve all been trapped at home:

Nico, Lead Programmer

  • Call of Duty: Warzone: This game is not only funnier than other Battle Royal games, but it teaches people that an entire genre can be improved! The “Gulag” mechanic it’s so clever for this type of game!
  • Mortal Kombat 11: I’m just playing this for laughs and the Story Mode.

Enrique, CEO

  • Overcooked 2: I have been taking advantage of the quarantine and got a couple of additional JoyCons to play some Overcooked 2 with my wife and daughters. It’s been fun and a big exercise in family collaboration.
  • Mario Kart: My 13-year-old always wins, no matter what I do.
  • Quantum League: Our friends from Nimble Giant in Argentia just published this and I’ve been getting my ass kicked in it!

Julian, Programmer

  • Half-Life: Alyx: H O L Y M A C A R O N I what a game. This is a must-play if you have a VR headset.
  • Valorant: It took me some time to get used to the movement and the sound of a tactical shooter, but when you get it, it’s a really fun game full of clutch moments.
  • Doom Eternal: I needed to vent all the rage of getting one-shotted in Valorant. Nothing better than Doom to de-stress.

Joel, Technical Director

  • Gear Tactics: An excellent X-Com-like game, I love its take on turn-based strategy.
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake: I think it’s better than the original! Holy guacamole, this game is crazy good, and very well done.
  • MegaMan Zero 2: Nothing like a classic Megaman game.

Paul, CFO

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: Such a huge world with so much available gear and endless quests.  As a developer, I can’t help but think (while I’m playing!) about the amount of time and effort it must take to make a game of this magnitude. I now have my 14-year-old playing the game and we spend a lot of time discussing what are the best weapons and armor. Quality family time!

Daniel, Lead Technical Artist

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake: This is what a remake title should do, is almost an entirely new experience. It keeps what was needed from the original and expands what needed to be expanded. I haven’t finished yet (currently on Chapter 17), but overall it is a great experience. The only thing I don’t like is that sometimes the AI feels cheap, taking decisions right at the moment when you just press a button or trying to move away from your camera to attack you by surprise.
  • Mortal Kombat 11 – Aftermath: The team at NetherRealm certainly knows how to make a great Story for a fighting game! It feels like a movie – the cinematics have impressive motion capture work. Although their gameplay decisions overall are weird, making some characters very fun to play and others very boring.

Luis, CCO

  • Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered: I LOVE the franchise, but missed the original release of this game 11 years ago. It is a very cool game! You can understandably see some dated rough edges concerning UX, but nothing that deters me from experiencing the magical fortune of being able to play within the universe of an IP I love since I was a kid. Don’t cross the streams!
